Mr. Sloop was hatched from an egg inside John Pops' imagination...
When she was small, Florence didn't like to go to bed unless her bedroom light was on... sometimes all through the night!
... UNTIL Mr. Sloop and the Dolphins story was read to her!
This was the first seed of the Mr. Sloop stories and adventures.
Whilst Granny and John 'Pops' were on a short break in a small sea-side town called St. Ives on the South Coast of England, they visited a small gift store that had some really cute long-necked glass ducks in the window... They wore a floppy bed-cap, carried a hot-water bottle and a safe night-time candle. (The battery one!)
One morning, down by the harbour, John 'Pops' imagination hatched into life a small duck with a very long neck that lived in his small blue house overlooking the bay, who loved night-time more than chocolate and was ready for bed almost every day.
They were standing in a road called 'The Sloop'...
John 'Pops' pencilled the very first story, 'Mr. Sloop and the Dolphins' using ideas from that trip in St. Ives. The Dolphins were spotted in the bay swimming around and jumping in the waves on of their afternoons.
following his diagnosis of Dementia, these became the first Mr. Sloop story book...
